CPU celebrates Dr. Rex D. Drilon Day 2014

Apart from being called the `Love Month’ February is a special month for Central Philippine University. CPU celebrates Dr. Rex D. Drilon Day on February 21. The commemoration includes a Memorial Service and Floral Offering at 6:00 AM at the Evangelical Memorial Gardens in Balantang, Jaro, Iloilo City. It is attended by members of Pres. Drilon’s family, Officers of the CPU Administration, Deans, Principals, Department Heads, Unit Heads, members of the CPU Board of Trustees, CPU Corporation, CPU AAI Board of Trustees, and CPU Retirees in town.
Three other events are also prepared for the celebration. A historical exhibit on February 21 will open at the Henry Luce III Library at 9:00 AM, and will be followed by 2nd Dr.D. Drilon Memorial Lecture at 10:00 AM at the Rose Memorial Auditorium. Prof. Rex C. Drilon II, Chairman of the National Issues Committee of the Management Association of the Philippines is guest speaker. This year’s theme is “A Legacy of Stewardship”.
A Debate Contest sponsored by the Dr. Rex D. Drilon Debate Society will be held at 1:00 PM at the Alumni Promenade Concert Park. Mr. Lincoln Rex Drilon, son of Pres. Drilon, will deliver his message through a song during the afternoon program.
Dr. Rex D. Drilon, CPU’s First Filipino President, is well-remembered as an educator and prominent professor in English, a prolific writer and member of the `fourth estate’ who once served as President of the Iloilo Press Club. Dr.Drilon received a Man of the Year Award from the World War Veterans Association of the 6th Military District and was listed in the World Who’s Who.
