| SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH INSTITUTE
(SSRI)
The Social Science Research Institute
(SSRI) is one of the research arms of Central
Philippine University. The institute offers
research, training, and consultancy services
in the social sciences to the people, agencies,
and institutions in Western Visayas (Region
VI), as well as those outside the region.
Functions
Specifically, SSRI has the following
functions:
a) Conducts research on various
social concerns, like population, health, family
planning, education, poverty, technology transfer,
service delivery, local governance, business
management, marketing, social and economic interventions,
and other related subjects.
b) Designs and conducts training
on research methodologies, statistics, computer
use in research, data management and analysis
(with SPSS application), technical writing,
proposal preparation, monitoring and evaluation,
strategic planning and other related topics.
c) Organizes seminars and symposia
to disseminate research results and use these
in program planning and decision-making by program
managers, planners, policy makers and researchers.
d) Provides consultancy services
and technical assistance to planners, policy
makers, program managers and implementers, researchers,
faculty members and graduate students in the
conduct and/or utilization of research.
Services
A. Training
SSRI conducts training on research methods,
statistics, computer use in data management
and analysis (SPSS, MICROSTAT, EXCEL, etc),
technical writing preparation of research and
project proposal and other related subjects.
SSRI usually designs, implements and manages
the training. In some cases SRRI staff are invited
as resource persons or workshop facilitators.
B. Consultancy
SRRI provides consultancy services
in research, statistics and technical/report
writing, project proposal development, strategic
planning organizational diagnosis, or monitoring
and evaluation to researchers, program managers,
policy makers, graduate students, and also to
government and non-government agencies.
The SSRI director and research associates have
served as research or technical consultants
to various regional, national as well as international
agencies with projects in the Philippines.
SSRI has provided consultancy
and technical assistance to provincial and municipal
government units in REGION VI, particularly
in the preparation of municipal or provincial,
projects proposal and in the monitoring and
evaluation of development projects.
SSRI provides technical assistance
to researchers and students and faculty of CPU
and other academic institutions who are involved
in the research.
C. Networking Activities
SSRI has undertaken research,
training, and other development endeavors in
collaboration with various local, regional,
national and international organizations as
part of its networking activities. Among the
organizations or groups with which SSRI or SSRI
staff have linked or work with are:
a) Provincial and Municipal LGU;
b) Regional and national agencies,
such as: DOH, DTI, DA, DECS, NEDA, POPCOM, and
DOST
c) Regional and national research
organizations/Institute like: the Regional Health
Research and Development Council (RHRDC) and
the Philippine Council of Health Research and
Development (PCHRD), Health Research Network
(HRN), UP Population Institute, etc;
d) International Research/Funding
Institutions such Population Council, Family
Health International. USAID, UNICEF, Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA), International
Labor Organization (ILO), etc.
D. Research
In the past 25 years, SSRI has
conducted numerous research studies for or in
collaboration with local, regional, national
and international agencies an various fields.
Almost all of these studies have been commissioned
to SSRI on a competitive basis. The list of
