Miss Western Visayas Tourism 2000 Pageant is a Centralian

Beauty and brain Ms. Brigid C. Merañez, a sophomore at the College of Nursing, bested seven other aspiring beauty queens region-wide during the annual search of Miss Western Visayas Tourism 2000 held in Iloilo City on September 30, 2000. She was also Best in Swimsuit and Darling of the Press from the Iloilo Press Club.

It will be recalled, that Brigid is also this year’s Miss Pintados de Passi, Miss Notre Dame First Runner-up and Miss University Day (CPU) second runner-up.

Born in Norala, South Cotabato, 19-year old Brigid is the daughter of Antonio Lopez and Nenita Garcia.

 

6th grader tops YMCA art tilt

Jose Benedicto Sorilla IV, Grade VI-Gold, won first place in the YMCA National Children’s On-the-Spot Drawing Contest (Visayas Area) held in Bacolod City last September 30, 2000. He was awarded a trophy, certificate, and cash prize of P1,500.

He will represent the region in the national level competition in December this year.

Ms. Sheila Sorilla served as the faculty adviser.

HS Boys Swimming Team bags Team Championship

According to reports from Mr. JP Trasporto, Swimming Coach, on all levels, the CPUDHS swimming team won 6 golds in the recent Iloilo Prisaa 2000 held at the Iloilo Sports Complex Swimming Pool.

The team won over Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus team that garnered 5 golds, John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation High School team, which gathered 4 golds.

The team is composed of the following:

Jan Enojas, senior high student, who won a record breaking gold in the 50m freestyle stroke in 28 secs, which set him as the new Iloilo Prisaa record time holder in this event; 2 silvers in the 100m freestyle stroke and in the 100m breaststroke; and a bronze in the 200m breast stroke;

Tamm Jenri Suarez, sophomore high student, who won 2 golds in the 100m and 200m Backstroke; a silver in the 200m freestyle stroke; and 2 bronzes in the 100m and 50m freestyle stroke.

Matthew Elmo Suarez, freshman high student, who won 2 golds in the 100m and 200m butterfly stroke; and 2 silvers in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

Mark Halcom Rey Bieren, sophomore high student, who won a gold in the 4 x 50m freestyle team relay and a silver in the 4 x 50m medley team relay.

On the otherhand, Veronica Paloma, sophomore high student, of the girls’ team, won a bronze in the 100m freestyle stroke.

Meanwhile, Lovelie Joy Luno, freshman B.S. Software Eng’g student, of the women/tertiary team, won 5 golds in the 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m and 200m butterfly stroke and 200m Individual Medley.

Paoul Sylvester Suarez, freshman B.S. Software Eng’g student, of the men/tertiary team, won a bronze in the 100m backstroke while Uric John Fernandez, B.S. Marketing Junior student, won 4th place in the 100m breaststroke.
