Four Eng’g Faculties Attend Milwaukee Training
Four faculty members of the College of Engineering recently attended training at Milwaukee School of Engineering, Milwaukee, U.S.A. They were able to attend the Spring Term, which started in March 2000 and ended in May of the same year. Members of the delegation were Engr. Alberto A. Java (EE Dept.), Mr. Alejandro R. Manderico (ME Dept.), Engr. Ernie Rey S. Robles II (SE Dept.), and Engr. Hernani G. Samson (ME Dept.). The training is funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through its Center Of Development I (COD I) Grant for the College of Engineering and sponsored by the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) through the efforts of Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, a CPU alumnus and a professor at MSOE. The primary objective of the training is for the faculty to get valuable updates in their respective fields of study and to prepare for the new course, which is Software Engineering.

Samson and Molina are FUSE
Trainers Two top-caliber Engineering faculties are among the twelve Physics teachers nationwide to compose the Foundation for Upgrading of Standards of Education Inc. (FUSE) training program team as trainers in a series of workshops on effective teaching of College Physics that will commence on January 8-12, 2001. These teachers are Engr. Danny Molina and Hernani Samson. The two underwent a training program in Manila last September 24-26, 2000. They actually prepared the original training proposal. However, because of cost constraints, FUSE had decided that the trainers should come from the area where the seminars will be held. Engr. Samson was one of the two lecturers from CPU during the Manila training because of his vast experience in similar training in the past specifically on College Algebra. The other faculty was Dr. Dahlia Pescos of the Chemical Engineering Department. Funded by Mr. Lucio Tan, the FUSE training program is aimed at improving the quality of basic education in teaching College Physics in the country. According to Dean Walden Rio, university participation in the program is part of the school’s obligation being a CHED 1 School of Engineering.
