Ms. Grace Savella, President of the CPU Rank and File Labor Union was among the six-member delegation from the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) who went to China for a ten-day visit in October.  

The FFW group was invited by the All-China Federations of Trade Unions  to have an exchange opinions on common labor issues and to boost further the friendly and cooperative relations between the Chinese and Filipino labor organizations.  

The other members of the visiting team were former Congresman Ramon Jabar, FFW National President; Mr. Ernesto Verceles, President of the University of the East Employees Union; Mr. Jose Cayobit, President of the A. Soriano Corp. Employees Union; and Ms. Teresa Montejo of the Interphil Laboratories Employees’ Union.  

Dean Enrique S. Altis attended the Executive Committee Conference of the Association of Colleges of Agriculture in the Philippines (ACAP) on December 2-3, 1999. The conference was held at Aklan State College of Agriculture, Banga, Aklan.  

Among the salient decisions made during the activity were: adoption of an Agrarian Reform Community by the ACAP member schools; putting-up of a scholarship program; and revision of ACAP Farm Management Workbook.  

The participants also came up with the following plans for the Association: fund-raising program, agribusiness seminar-workshop, building-up of sustainable resource materials for instruction, research and extension services.

Rev. Jerson Narciso, university chaplain, led the CPU delegation to the 1st Regional Conference on Values Education for the Tertiary Level  held at Colegio de San Agustin – Bacolod City on November 22-23, 1999.The other participants were Prof. Sheila Salazar, College of Arts and Sciences; Miss Lydia Benecio, College of Commerce; Prof. Celia Sumagaysay, College of Education and Engr. Zenaida Prado, College of Engineering.  

The conference aimed to update oneself with  
the current concerns, developments, and issues in values education in both national and Asia-Pacific spheres. The participants were expected to enhance one’s personal qualities, values and professional competence in teaching the Filipino values promoted by the Philippine Centennial Commission and by the values-laden pillars of the Jacques Delors Education for the 21st century. Moreover, the organizers expected that the conference would promote the goals of values education program in the tertiary level.  

Meanwhile, it was learned that Rev. Narciso was elected as vice president for Higher Education Association for Values Education in Region VI.
