Eng’g teams excel in 3 quiz bowls 

The College of Engineering proved again its supremacy by winning top awards in various quiz bowls.  

The CPU Electrical Engineering Student Council Quiz Team garnered first place in the IIEE Regional Quiz for Western Visayas held on September 4 at UNO-R, Bacolod City.  On the same day, EE team members, Great Dilla and Melchesedech Capanang emerged the first and third placers, respectively of the IIEE Math Quiz.  

Representing   Region VI for 11 years now in the national level, the CPU Team bagged the 1st  Runner Up title in the  recent IIEE 13th Annual National Quiz Show held at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City, Metro Manila. The members of the team are Arthem Palermo, Arman Balao, Hermie Tacogdoy, Great Dilla and Melchesedech Capanang.  Engr. Lizette Ivy Catadman and  Engr. Cirilo C. Calibjo served as the team’s adviser and coach, respectively.  

Meanwhile, the Electronics and Communication Engineering  team of CPU, participating for the first time, garnered the second place in the IECEP Visayas Regional Quiz Show which was held in Cebu on September 24. The members of the ECE team were Rex Alibogha, ECE 4; Mary Knoll Bereber, ECE 5; Bethany Cadungan, ECE 5; and Benjie Fernandez, ECE 5.  Engineers, Ramon Alguidano and Adonis Jesrel Jagorin coached the winning team.  
  

CPU studes  win in  JPIA quiz bowl 

Representatives of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants-CPU Chapter  performed well in the Quiz Bowl competition which capped the Accountancy Week celebration. The team garnered  first place in the Group Category  while two other delegates made it in the Individual Category.  

The winning team was composed of Sharon Rebadio, Val Pama and Ananias Odanggo. Placing 2nd place and 6th place, respectively were Shannie Martinez and Maricel Bermejo. The contest was held at Colegio de San Jose  on September 24, 1999.  

Echo chief heads CPU Press Club 

Jeremiah Butch Gemarino, editor-in-chief of Central Echo, is the new president of  CPU Press Club. He was  elected during the Club’s General Assembly at the Conference Room, Administration Building  on October 2. The other  
newly elected officers were: Glide Garcia, vice president; Cherrel Monton, secretary; Hermie Tacogdoy, treasurer; Jessana Carmela Lariza, press relation office;  
Jerelyn Catadman, auditor; Malou Habaradas, business manager.  

The CPU Press Club was organized last year after a series of consultation with campus journalists conducted by the Office of Planning and Development.  
  
 

Centralians lead  reg’l College Y 

CPU College Y president Allyn Grace Margarejo and Mrs. Norma Luz Vencer,  adviser, were elected to the top post of the newly organized regional chapter in Western Visayas.  Margarejo is now the first president of the Regional College Y Supreme Council while Mrs. Vencer is the president of the Regional Advisers.  

The election capped the regional orientation for all college and high school Y members  which was held at the YMCA office in Iloilo City on September 11. The other participants from CPU were Maricel Bermejo, Merlyn Masiado, Athena Ella Jimenea, Noel Siosan, Jr., Rodeck Palao, Reden Mariveles, Rocel Sanchez, Ann Rose Amen, Lucien Vencer, Cindy Castillo, Diony Dolor, Jennibel Arguello, Ma. Cristina Refugio, Remejean Ignacio, Ma. Socorro Serilo, Abigail Santillan and Ma. Louelyn Rhose Chua.  
  

University faculty serve as quiz bowl judges 

Two faculty members served as judges to the region-wide Environment and Technology Quiz Contest in the elementary level on October 19. They were Mr. Ernesto S. Elefan and Engr. Ernie Rey  S. Robles II, Life Sciences faculty and head of Engineering Computer Laboratory, respectively.  
The contest highlighted the launching of the Globe Program on Environment in Region VI which was held at the Philippine Science High School (PSHS)-Western Visayas. Alumnus Marvin L. Cadornigara, Med Tech.’93, served as the Globe Program Coordinator for Western Visayas. Cadornigara is faculty member of the PSHS.


EVERYBODY HAPPY. Representatives pof the CPU Rank and File Labor Union and the University Administration gladly sign the Collective Bargaining Agreement on Economic Issues for June 1999 to May 31, 2001.
