Fifteen graduates of Central Philippine University passed the November 1999 Civil Engineering Board Examination. The new Centralian Civil Engineers are Jose Rodante P. Besina, Charlie C. Cangrejo, Precy Grace C. Corneja, Shela Rose E. Genanda, Lara Elaine O. Grino, Jonberlie P. Ladua, Samela F. Leonor, Elben Marlon L. Malaga, Melvin A. Onacin, Melmar C. Ovivir, Jonathan A. Pliapil, Jay C. Quintilla, Joemarie A. Rapista, Rex J. Sirilan, Christopher M. Solen. CPU got 75% passing percentage
which was comparatively higher than the 33.65% national percentage.
Budding journalists from CPU Development High School led by Christian Joseph Y. Deles excelled in various contests during the Regional Secondary School Press Conference held in Victorias City, Negros Occidental. This was learned from Prof. Jerry Madayag, acting CPUDHS principal, who informed Link that Deles won 1st, 3rd and 10th places in the Sports Writing, Individual Highest Scorers, and News Writing, respectively. On the other hand, Mary Sunday Pahilga bagged the Special Cash Awards for the Best Shot taken during the Photo-journalism session, given by Mayor Severino Palanca of Victorias City. Another winner Jec Dan S.
Borlado, 8th placer in Photojournalism, was elected treasurer of
the Western Visayas Secondary Schools Publications Editor Association(WVSSPEA).The
other delegates from CPU were Jo Ann Fernandez, Nel Mark Sumbing
and Shaun Cary Akot. Miss Jessica Gargantiel served as faculty adviser
of the group.
Chris Emmelyn M. Bautista, Grade VI-Gold, topped the Editorial Writing (English) Contest in the recent Regional Elementary and Secondary School Press Conference. Held in Victorias City on November 18-19, the conference was participated in by various schools in Western Visayas. Bautista is an editorial
staff of Mini Echo, the official student publication of the CPU Elementary
School. The paper’s adviser is Ms. Shiela Sorilla who was elected as secretary
of the Regional Elementary School Paper Advisers Association during
the regional conference.
