IMPACT ’99 prepares pastors for the new millennium

Dr. David Davis addressing the CPU students who respond to the call of commitment to Jesus Christ.

Over 200 pastors in Iloilo and the neighboring provinces can still feel until now  the impact of the Pastors Conference which was held at Central Philippine University on August 3-4, 1999.

Dubbed “IMPACT ‘99”,  the conference was designed to encourage faith, enlighten vision and establish stronger bond of fellowship for those who have been called to do the work in the ministry.

True to its name and mission, the IMPACT  Team made an impact to the participants who confessed that the conference has not only benefited them personally. It also helped their respective ministries, particularly the people whom they serve. This is not surprising, taking into consideration the preparation of the conference leaders and organizers both individually and collectively. Led by a seasoned evangelist, the team was composed of ministers of God with rich spiritual experiences to share.

Dr. David B. Davis, the team’s evangelist, has traveled all across America for 18 years, preaching revival crusades as an evangelist. Dr. David also served as a pastor for over 10 years of his ministry. He has preached area-wide crusades in India on 13 occasions that has resulted in over 30,000 souls saved. He has been involved in the training of pastors in India.

Rev. J. Morris has pastored and served churches in Texas for over 20 years. He especially is gifted in training pastors and the laity in personal evangelism. Rev. Morris has preached crusades in India on three occasions and has also been instrumental in the training of pastors in that country.

Rev. Mike Clements has been a very successful pastor in Texas and has a heart for evangelism and discipleship. He has a heart for encouraging those who serve the Lord and willing to share some vital messages to equip each pastor as they continue to reach others with the Gospel.

Rev. Keith Henson began his work in the business world in America before following God’s call to the ministry and God is blessing his church in Oklahoma. His spiritual gift is  that of encouragement.

The IMPACT ’99 Pastors Conference was held  during the celebration of  Christian Emphasis Week in CPU. It was also the Impact Team who took charge of the week-long celebration in coordination with Rev. Jerson Narciso, university chaplain. Under the theme “Preparing for the New Millennium”, the CEW drew 1,180 souls for Jesus Christ.

The Impact Crusade Team also reached out to other Baptist churches in Iloilo, notably the Baptist Center Church, Calvario Evangelical Church, Dumangas Baptist Church and the University Church. The evangelistic rally in Janiuay, Iloilo also drew a sizeable crowd, with many of those who attended making decisions to commit their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The coming of the IMPACT Team to CPU was made possible through the effort of  the US-based alumni led by the Braña and de la Cruz families. Spearheaded by Engr. & Mrs. Lejo Catedral Braña, the preparation took nearly a year before being materialized. Engr. Brana, 1997 Distinguished Centralian Awardee, has been known not only for his skills in  professional packaging but also for his advocacy in “packaging” relationship with God and with fellow human beings.

He has  distinguished himself as the first Filipino Certified Professional in Packaging and the first Filipino and Asian to receive the most prestigious award in the packaging community in the US and worldwide –  his election to the 1997 Class of Packaging Education Forum’s Packaging Hall of Fame.  Above all these, however, Engr. Braña is a Centralian who would always  point out the importance of relationship with God. He considered the right relationship with God which was established and developed at Central as the guiding light which has illumined his ways towards  success in life.

Mr. & Mrs. Augusto de la Cruz signed the memorandum of agreement governing their book donation to the Henry Luce III Library. The University Administration was represented by President Acanto and Victory Gabawa, Library Director.
