Arriola elected as PHILAMCOP trustee  
  
Mrs. Gloria Arriola, University personnel officer, was elected as member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Labor and Management Cooperation Practitioners (PHILAMCOP) during its 2nd National Convention held at Grand Men Seng Hotel, Davao City on November 25-26, 1999.  

Sponsored by the Department of Labor and Employment and PHILAMCOP, the convention was participated in by over 600 participants coming from 13 regions in the country. Aside from Mrs. Arriola, who represented the management,  two other delegates from CPU  represented the labor sector in that assembly. These were Atty. Samson Averia of the Faculty Association and Miss Trinidad Sorongon of the Rank and File Labor Union.  
Among the issues discussed during the convention were the Best Practices of Labor-Management Cooperation  (LMC) for the Global Challenge; Its Role in Strengthening Unionism through Labor-Management Partnership, and Its Institutionalization through PHILAMCOP as the Umbrella Organization.  

The national gathering of LMC practitioners was graced by Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma who delivered the keynote address. The other resource persons were Dr. Szal and Dr. Campbell. After the convention, the group from Iloilo was treated to a very relaxing and enjoyable tour which included visits to two of the many fruit farms of alumnus Alfredo Rivera, BSA ’69, the Yuhico Orchid Farm and the Philippine Eagle.  
  
CPU mountaineers top competition  

The CPU Mountaineering Society emerged as overall champion in the Orienteering Competition  held  at Bulabo, Puti-an National Park, Dingle, Iloilo on October 2, 1999.  

The competition was participated in by 33 school-based teams. The  CPU Mountaineering Society was represented by 7 teams with 3 members each. Two women teams also won 2nd and 3rd places while one of the men’s team got 4th place. The CPU Mountaineering  Society is presently headed by  Joshua Sargado.

Centralians occupy key posts in AFP reserve force   

Seven Centralians are occupying key positions in the Division Level of the 61st Infantry Division (Sres) PA which covers the whole Western Visayas. Considered the best reserve force in the Philippines,  61st ID is the reserve counterpart of the regular force in the 3rd Infantry Division  based in Camp Macario Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz.It supplies personnel to the 3rd ID in times of calamities and emergencies.  

Led by  Col. Norberto J. Teves, Jr., Assistant Division Commander, the other Centralians in the 61st ID leadership are as follows: Prim C. Vergara III, Command Sergeant Major; Allan Michelle Aligante, Chief Administrative NCO; Vic Bologino, Administrative NCO in the office of the G7; Joel Somosierra, Material and Supply NCO; Jessie John Millamena, NCO in the office of the Division Surgeon; and Mariano Grino III, Administrative NCO in the Office of the Chief of Staff.  

Col. Teves, faculty of the CPU Development High School, is the second in command in the Division level while Vergara, Graduate Studies student, is the first in command among NCO and enlisted personnel.  

Stuart donates music books, books  

Hazel Stuart, wife of  the former CPU president son David,  donated  recently 86 music books, 105 music pieces and 2  pamphlets to the CPU Library. The newly donated materials are now in the Technical Section of the Henry Luce III Library.  


UNIQUE CLASS REUNION. Despite the absence of other classmates, Mrs. Magdalena Saperiera (nee Laporga) and Mrs. Natividad Caipang (nee Campillo) gladly pose for posterity as they celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the prestigious  Class 1949 of the Graduate Nurse Diploma Program. The 3-year program started as a regular course (1946-49) after World War II. The other members of this batch who have become successful practitioners both here and abroad are as follows: Filomena Agawin, Froilena Bolneo, Paz Canete, Remegio Cordova, Josefina David, Salud Depakakibo, Consolacion Dormitorio, Luz Fajutrao, Gloria Garrido, Delia Jamandre, Roberta Jamili, Laurel Jover,  Lydia Magno, Modesta Montelibano, Pura Pingoy,Irenea Pollentes, Consolacion Soliva, Provedencia Solon, Amelia Verzosa.  Their Class Adviser was Luisa Sison Arias.
