featured on Millennium Aussie stamps
Every Centralian will stand taller at the turn of the 21st century for having an alumna featured in the historical Australian millennium stamps. Edith Dizon-Fitzsimmons (AB ’46), a 1996 Distinguished Centralian awardee in Music, continues to make honors for her Alma Mater and fellowmen by being one of the 25 “ Historic Faces of Australia” selected from over 30,000 entries. This 77-year old Filipina,
daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Albaladejo has distinguished herself as
the first woman pilot with a rank of First Lieutenant in the Philippine
Air Force. Despite her disability (blindness in right eye), she proved

CPU faculty is country’s no. 1 teacher board passer
Cabiling finished her Bachelor in Elementary Education at CPU in October 1998. She obtained high honor points but was not included in the honor list for lack of residency. After graduation, Melinda accepted the teaching job offered to her by CPU. Melinda is a native of Malabon, Manila. She completed her secondary education at the Torres High School in Tondo in 1973. A scholar at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Manila, but she finished only one semester of schooling because she went to work. She married in 1980 and had five children, four boys and a girl. She was supported financially and morally by her siblings based in the US after she and her husband separated. In 1993, she decided to pursue the education degree at the University of Manila. She transferred to Iloilo in 1996 and later enrolled at CPU in 1997. Melinda’s feat was featured both in the national daily, Philippine Daily Inquirer, and in two local dailies, Sun Star Iloilo and Daily Informer. Along with her accomplishment was the prominent mention of CPU in local and national dailies as her Alma Mater. page 13 Eng'g grads excel in ECE board Two Centralians made it to the Top Ten in the recent Electronics and Communications Engineering Board Examination. These were Geogie J. Belviz and Ana H. Chua Sieng , 2nd and 9th placers, respectively. The duo were among the 1999 ‘Cream of the Crop’ of the university. Belviz, who scored 90%, was a magna cum laude graduate and a recipient of the Most Outstanding ECE award given by the Institute of Electronic and Communications Engineers of the Philippines-Visayas Chapter. On the other hand, Chua Sieng, a cum laude graduate, got a rating of 87.20%. The other CPU graduates who successfully hurdled the 1999 ECE board were as follows: Emmanuel Jomer B. Baling, Noel M.
