Footwalk dedicated
In a simple ceremony showered by occasional rainfall, the Canopy-Covered Footwalk at Gate 1 was dedicated on November 17. Dr. Juanito M. Acanto gave the welcome address and greetings while Rev. Joniel Howard Gico, president of Convention Baptist Bible College, delivered the message. Rev. Gico is the immediate past president of the Elementary School Parent-Teacher’s Association. It was during his term as chairman of the Canteen Management Committee that this pet project started. Costing P103,995.00, the Phase I of the Canopy-Roofing covering the existing footwalk from Gate 1 to the Elementay Building was solely financed out of the proceeds of the Elementary School Canteen.
Aside from this project, the Canteen Management Committee (CMC) also initiated the renovation of the Canteen and its Annex Room. With a budget of P91, 724.00, the work included tile flooring, replacement of doors and steel casing with glass windows. Moreover, a Canon Camera was donated to the Elementary School for the purpose of documenting special events. These were some of the projects which the CMC undertook to ensure that the income of the canteen is being plowed back to the Elementary School for the benefit of the childen, teachers and parents, as well. the CMC is composed of Mr. Pepito Caburog, treasurer and chairman, Projects
Committee; Mrs. Shiela Sorrilla, ass’t. treasurer; Mrs. Droliza Fe Mejorada,
auditor; Mr. Levi John Primero, PRO; Miss Susan Herga, secretary; Mrs.
Nenita Porras, Miss Amenta Idmilao, and Mrs. Diona Ines, board of directors.
Kabalaka outpost inaugurated
Held on November 11, the ceremony was participated in by representatives from the city government, national government agencies, non-government organizations, academe and other sectors with health-related programs and services. Rev. Melvin Mangana led the invocation which preceded the opening remarks of Dean Betty Polido. The inspirational message was delivered by Mayor Mansueto Malabor after administering the ceremonial ribbon-cutting which was assisted by Dr. Juanito M. Acanto. Other speakers included Mr. Melchor Nava, chairman MTRCB; Dr. Urminico Baronda, Jr., City Health officer; Dr. Sofia Chua, STD/AIDS Regional officer; Dr. Patria Inayan, Medical Specialist II, SHC; Mr. Pascual Espinosa, Mr. Rex Donasco and Dr. Elmer Pedregosa. Prof. Marian Virgie Gumayan, executive director of Kabalaka gave the closing remarks.

Painting exhibit
for a cause
A Painting Exhibit was held at CPU on December 8-11 for the benefit of the Crisis Center for Women and Children. A campus-based special project of the Iloilo Council of Social Development, Inc. (ICSD), the Crisis Center addresses directly the problems of rape, incest, family violence, sexual harassment, and involuntary prostitution. It provides support and assistance in terms of temporary shelter, counseling, referral, and medical, legal advocacy services. The participating artists who displayed
their artworks included a College of Commerce faculty, CPU student and
two alumni. These were Lucell Larawan, Loven Ramos, Jemuel Harder and Nilo
Bacas, respectively. The other artists were Alan Cabalfin and Henry Prado.
The activity was sponsored by the Iloilo Council of Social Development, Inc. in cooperation with the CPU Cultural Affairs Committee, Office of the Student Affairs, Junior Social Workers Association and Panorama Printing, Inc. SLO celebrates 4th anniversary The CPU Staff Labor Organization celebrated its 4th anniversary at the CPU -SLO Heritage Subdivision, Aganan, Pavia on November 14. The Thanksgiving Celebration coincided with the Turning-Over Ceremony of a Portion of the Development of Project by Engr. Narciso P. Maravilla, president of Diday’s Enterprises to the CPU SLO president Lydia A. Grio.
The Prayer of Thanksgiving was rendered by Dr. Limuel R. Equina, OIC of the Department of Religion and Ethics, while Rev. Melvin M. Mangana gave the Closing Prayer. |
