University showcases Festival of Lights

Last Christmas, CPU held a "Festival of Lights" to attract the alumni, friends, and the general public to visit the campus.

“This is to let everyone know that in spite of the burden spawned by the El Niño phenomenon, the currency crisis in Asia, and the impending threat posed by La Nina, the joy of celebrating the birth of our Lord continues to reign within our hearts,” said Pres. Juanito M. Acanto.

The campus glittered with hundreds of colorful lanterns, numerous nativity scenes, lighted trees and various sets of lighted figurines depicting Christmas-related stories.

The daigon contest participated in by the different provinces of the Student Republic on December 17, 1998 was won by the CPU Development High School. Winners of the Light-A-Tree, Lantern and Nativity Scene contest were also announced on said date.

The switching on of the Christmas light  took place on December 1 with City Mayor Mansueto Malabor and Don Pepe Layson as  guests. Other highlights of the affair involved mini- fire works followed by a wide-screen video presentation of grand fireworks.  The festival of lights continued until January 6, 1999.
