111 INTRODUCTION TO THE OLD TESTAMENT I The course is an introductory study of the Old Testament. It includes a general survey of the contents, themes and major highlights of the 39 books of the Old Testament. 3 units. BS 121 INTRO. TO THE OLD TESTAMENT II The course is part II to an introductory course of the Old Testament using two approaches, namely: a) studying the various methods used in the Old Testament studies; and b) gaining an overview of its contents and discovering a summary of its faith content. (prerequisite: BS 111 Intro. to the Old Testament I). 3 units. BS 212 INTRO. TO THE NEW TESTAMENT A study of the history and literature of the New Testament. Wide reading in the sources themselves and consideration of current critical views will be emphasized. 3 units. BS 223 PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION A study of the history of interpretation and an appraisal of the various methods, principles, guidelines and application of biblical interpretation. 3 units. BS 435a HEBREW A study of Hebrew grammar, vocabulary and syntax that will equip the students with skills to read, understand and translate selected texts of the Old Testament in the original. 6 units. CED 211 FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION A survey of the history, function, objectives, methods and materials of Christian education in the church. 3 units. HS 311 EARLY CHURCH HISTORY A study of the growth and development of the church up to A.D. 500. 3 units. HS 321 MEDIEVAL CHURCH HISTORY Medieval Church History deals with the fate of the parts of the Roman Empire after its fall. In the eastern or Asiatic section, the church continued under imperial control; the southern or African section came under the Moslems; and in the Western European section, the dual institutions of the Holy Roman Empire and the Roman Catholic competed for control after the Kingdom of the Germanic invaders merges under Charlemagne and later Otto. 3 units. PPS 314 PRINCIPLES AND VARIETIES OF PREACHING A study of the nature of preaching, methods of sermon planning and outlining, and the development of sermons, both from texts and topics. Some consideration will be given to principles of voice production and the art of oral expression as they relate to the sermon delivery. 3 units. PPS 315a PASTORAL CARE WITH POPULATION EDUCATION A study of the biblical, historical and contemporary meaning and practice of the pastoral ministry of the church on the care of souls in relation to personal and social problems including in its focus the issue on responsible parenthood and development. 3 units. PPS 417 CHURCH ADMINISTRATION A comprehensive survey of the organization, administration, and supervision of the total program of the church, including its task of Christian education, with emphasis upon developing lay initiative and leadership ability. Attention is given to Baptist policy and practices and to denominational and interdenominational relationships. 3 units. PPS 419 FIELD WORK 7 A program of field work during the school year in various areas of the church’s ministry. Students are given week-end pastoral work or assignment to a pastor. Supervision is provided in field work classes and direct observation in the field. 3 units. PPS 427a CHURCH, GENDER, AND OTHER CURRENT ISSUES The course is a study of the Christian church in relation to the impact of gender and current issues on church life and ministry, particularly in the Asian and Philippine contexts. It includes the study of the role of women and men in contemporary church and society, taking into consideration early church history and an analysis of the impact of patriarchy and feminism on the biblical faith, Christian theology and the ministry. 3 units. >> back to top |
